Dutch & Dutch nailed it.

Superb sound in every room: Dutch & Dutch nailed it.

Dutch & Dutch is a company that builds loudspeakers. Well, there are many. But there is one aspect of monitoring Dutch & Dutch has really understood – and give you products that avoid problems instead of desperately trying to cope with them.

The room is the problem? Maybe it's the speakers!

It is said that speakers and the room they're in interact acoustically. That is true, and a perfectly treated room really supports your speakers. If you want the best monitoring situation one can possibly imagine, you don't only need high end speakers but also a room, that is designed and built around that specific pair of speakers. Are you the lucky person who has exactly that (or the tens or hundreds of thousands of Euros needed to build it)?

Even acoustic treatment solves only some, but never all problems that occur in a room. While it is one thing to tame wall and ceiling reflections and to set up speakers for a good stereo image, controlling the bass is another. But in real life rooms the bass response is everything but even. Getting hold of the modes determined by the room size with acoustic means is a really big and costly project. Altering the frequency response of speakers by calibration systems alone is definitely only fighting a symptom, not the cause.

So what about the speakers themselves? Can't they help avoiding problems right at the root? Well, the cleverly designed Dutch & Dutch speakers can.

Your room corners don't need bass, you do!

Unlike trebles, bass propagates in a rather spherical manner when emitted from a speaker. And it is one main cause of trouble: acoustic energy is sent into the room in any direction, building up modes. Dutch & Dutch speakers use a well-engineered combination of additional woofers on the backsides, an acoustic concept with slots on the speaker's sides, waveguides and additional DSP for phase alignment to form a response near a cardioid throughout the whole frequency range. And there you have it, a monitoring system that is less affected by the room they're used in.

Too close to the front wall? No problem.

Another issue when setting up loudspeakers for monitoring is the distance to the front wall. Many studios do not offer the space for the speakers to be positioned a metre or more from the wall behind them. Dutch & Dutch speakers use Boundary Layer Coupling: Those back-facing woofers are working with the wall reflections instead of against them.

Sounds nice – on paper. And in reality?

We can assure you: You will be astonished by how good those speakers sound in any environment. Setting up for a temporary recording in an untreated room? You will have a hard time finding speakers that perform better in awkward environments. And set up for duty in your control room studio, the precision and truthfulness of the sound you hear with a pair of Dutch & Dutch will boost the quality of your recordings and mixes!

Dutch & Dutch Studio 8c and 8c Studio

There are two versions of the classic Dutch & Dutch speaker available, and they are much alike. Both are sold as a pair, with the 8c Studio being built with high-quality MDF and mounting points for installation and the 8c being built from solid oak wood and offering direct streaming and more finish options.

The new kid: Dutch & Dutch 6c

There is a smaller version of the 8c coming, the Dutch & Dutch 6c, which has just been premiered. It is by no means a „light version“, though, it gives you all the advantages of the original speaker. Even more: With the Dutch & Dutch 6s following in 2026, the 6c will be part of a modular system. The 6s is essentialy a bass extention module, sold in pairs, giving you a powerful full range monitoring system with a cardioid pattern down to the lowest sub bass.

Designed by highly qualified engineers and being built in The Netherlands from the best materials available, those speakers are not some cheapos. But keep in mind what acoustic treatment would cost you – and you would still need really good speakers. And also consider: Moving to another room is as easy as 1,2,3. Or do you plan to work in the same room for the rest of your life? So if you're looking for something to step up your monitoring situation, you should definitely try out the fabulous Dutch & Dutch!
