The Swift draws influence from two timeless valve recording designs from the "golden days" of audio, incorporating modern enhancements to meet the demands of today's professional users. Our main electronics are rooted in a 1950s EMI desk, offering extended top and bass responses. The active EQ, reminiscent of the revered BAXANDALL design, remains intact, while we have introduced our own touch with the addition of a Presence switch, providing a broad-band lift to mid/high frequencies. This unique feature takes inspiration from Vic Keary's 1963 invention, widely employed in his legendary mixing desks.
The passive mid-lift controls, inspired by the iconic Pultec design, have been thoughtfully incorporated into The Swift. To optimize efficiency and convenience, we have meticulously chosen four frequencies, complemented by three "Q" settings. Our exclusive offerings include a Hi Pass Filter, Mid Cut, and "Air" controls, all implemented in a passive manner. By setting the High Pass Filter at its last position and applying generous bass lift at either 50 or 100 Hz, an intriguing Pultec-type effect can be achieved, combining a shelving bass cut with a low-frequency filter.
To enable precise adjustments, all potentiometers on The Swift operate continuously, providing optimal control without the need for indented settings, ensuring subtlety and reliability. Gain adjustments are conveniently controlled via switches for easy comparison. Engage the BYPASS switch to instantly disconnect the electronics, allowing you to hear the unadulterated original signal. While no metering is included, we have deemed it a mere distraction, ensuring your focus remains on the music. With an impressive +20 dBu output capability, The Swift exhibits minimal distortion and practically negligible noise.
While The Swift draws inspiration from classic designs, our electronic advancements present a significant improvement over their predecessors. Each channel features only two valves (tubes), meticulously chosen for minimal coloration. We have incorporated modern, specially designed Sowter transformers and valves, which have not previously been utilized in this type of circuit. Their superior sound quality and outstanding technical specifications provide us with a slight advantage over the original designers, who likely did not have access to these valves during the design phase.
