Originally produced by AKG for Telefunken, the ELA M251 shares similarities with the AKG C12 while possessing unique characteristics that contribute to its distinct sonic profile. Despite their technical similarities, even minor electrical variations between the ELA M251 and C12 result in significant sonic disparities. Recognizing the demand from our loyal customers for a microphone akin to the revered ELA M251, BeesNeez embarked on the development of the Tribute 2 Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone.
The original modular design of the ELA M251, intended to facilitate easy part replacement, inadvertently introduced pin-to-pin issues over time, leading to reliability concerns and rendering many units irreparable. In response, the Tribute 2 integrates meticulous engineering to mitigate such issues, ensuring longevity and steadfast performance.
Circuit Design: Elevating Performance with BeesNeez Tribute 2
At the core of the Tribute 2 lies the meticulously crafted BeesNeez Microphones CK12 capsule, meticulously handcrafted by Ben Sneesby himself. Designed to mirror the complexity of the original AKG CK12, this multi-chambered capsule sets the standard for precision and accuracy, ensuring unparalleled performance. Each capsule undergoes meticulous manufacturing, hand-lapping, and diaphragming processes, meticulously overseen by a single artisan to maintain consistency throughout. Renowned for its unmatched noise performance and precision, the CK12 capsule is ideal for AKG C12 replacements, DIY projects, or professional microphone applications.
Powering the Tribute 2 is a 13:1 tape wound mumetal toroidal transformer, meticulously wound with pure copper by our skilled BeesNeez staff. This transformer boasts reduced DC resistance and impeccable impedance conversion, thanks to its optimized turn count and wire size. Crafted with precision and encased to prevent leakage, the toroidal transformer delivers smooth sonic characteristics without frequency anomalies or nonlinear responses, setting a new standard for performance.
Complementing the capsule and transformer is the 6S6B-V Russian Military tube, selected for its low noise and sonic resemblance to the Telefunken AC701k, further enhancing the Tribute 2's sonic fidelity.

The body tube, crafted from a single piece of cold-formed 380 grade brass, offers exceptional rejection and shielding. Meticulously machined and finished with medical-grade nickel plating, the head grille ensures durability and sonic clarity. The base, also made from 380 grade brass, undergoes precision cutting and forming for stability and longevity. Our proprietary swivel mount connector, featuring gold-pinned Bakelite sockets, guarantees a lifetime of reliable connections, setting a new standard for durability and performance.
