Cranborne Audio N22
The Cranborne Audio N22 is a passive 4-channel Cat5 audio snake and C.A.S.T. breakout box designed for simple, flexible analogue audio distribution in studios and live environments.
Using Cranborne Audio's C.A.S.T. system, the N22 can replace four balanced XLR cables with a single shielded Cat 5e, Cat 6 or Cat 7 cable. Balanced analogue audio can be transported over distances of up to 100 metres / 330 feet, helping reduce cable clutter while maintaining signal integrity.
Because the N22 is completely passive, it requires no external power for audio transmission.
4 Channels of Analogue Audio Over Cat5
The N22 uses the internal copper conductors of standard shielded network cable to carry balanced analogue audio between C.A.S.T.-compatible devices.
A single shielded Cat 5e, Cat 6 or Cat 7 cable can therefore replace four individual balanced XLR cables, providing a compact alternative to conventional analogue multicore systems.
Cranborne Audio's C.A.S.T. connections are optimised to maintain signal integrity over cable runs of up to 100 metres / 330 feet with very low crosstalk and without high-frequency roll-off.
Standalone Cat5 Audio Snake
Two N22 units can be connected together to create a standalone four-channel analogue audio snake.
This allows balanced analogue audio to be sent between two locations using a single shielded Cat cable. An N22 can be positioned beside an audio interface while a second unit is placed in a vocal booth, live room or another recording location.
The system can therefore replace conventional analogue multicore cabling while using readily available network cable.
C.A.S.T. Breakout for 500R8 and 500ADAT
The N22 can also be used as a remote breakout box for Cranborne Audio products equipped with C.A.S.T. connections, including the 500R8 and 500ADAT.
Microphone and line-level sources connected to the N22 can be sent directly to the inputs of the connected 500R8 or 500ADAT.
At the same time, a stereo monitor mix from the interface can travel through the same C.A.S.T. connection and appear at the N22's balanced XLR and 1/4-inch jack outputs.
This enables audio to travel in both directions between the recording space and control room using a single shielded Cat cable.
48V Phantom Power Support
Cranborne Audio's C.A.S.T. system can also carry 48V phantom power.
When the N22 is connected to a compatible microphone preamp or audio interface, phantom power can be transferred through the Cat cable to condenser microphones and active DI boxes connected at the remote location.
A single C.A.S.T. cable can carry up to four separate phantom power lines.
The N22 can therefore be used with conventional third-party microphone preamps and audio interfaces as well as Cranborne Audio products including the 500R8, 500ADAT and Camden EC2.
Completely Passive Operation
The Cranborne Audio N22 requires no external power supply.
Audio is transferred entirely through the shielded Cat cable, making the N22 suitable for permanent studio installations as well as temporary recording and live setups where additional power connections would be inconvenient.
Expandable C.A.S.T. System
The N22 can be integrated with other Cranborne Audio C.A.S.T.-equipped products.
Connecting the N22 to the Cranborne Audio N22H allows headphone amplification to be positioned remotely beside a musician while audio is distributed through the C.A.S.T. system.
The N22 can also be used with the Camden EC2, allowing its preamp inputs or outputs to be relocated between different areas of a studio using shielded Cat 5e, Cat 6 or Cat 7 cable.
